Fundraiser for Nevada Political Action for Animals. Here I am with Senator Mark Manendo and Stacia Newman.
Well let’s be honest I dropped the ball last year on this blog. I worked on so many exciting things in 2013 involving animals and I just never got around to sharing it with everyone! I’m going to pull it together for 2014….. Starting Now.
I want to discuss a story that has me fuming. Outdoor network TV host Corey Knowlton has recently purchased a permit to kill a critically endangered black rhino. Want to know the price tag for that permit? A whopping $350,000! But don’t get it twisted he claims to be doing it to conserve the species. Even better the people who sold the permit claim to be a group protecting the species. According to multiple sources there are only about 5,000 black rhino’s left in the wild, so of course we should start paying to pick them off one by one. I’ve heard this argument a million times from hunters. They HAVE to kill animals to maintain the population. Hmmm well animals have been maintaining their own populations since the beginning of time so why they suddenly need you to put a bullet in their head makes no sense. Furthermore, by this logic we should really be doing population management on our own species. As of now there are over 7 billion people on this planet. According to http://www.worldometers.info/world-population/ there were over 350,000 people born today and a mere 150,000 died today. That sounds like way more of a population problem then a measly 5,000 black rhinos. The most offensive part of this story is that Corey actually wants the public to believe he is doing this to help the animals while one quick glance at his FB and you can see he spends all of his free time trophy hunting many of the worlds most beautiful creatures. At least have the balls to call it what it is which is another head to hang on your wall of horrors. Corey was also complaining to Piers Morgan that he has to travel with a security detail because he has received death threats. Now, I don’t condone any sort of violence but at least consider that these people are giving you a warning before they shoot you. That’s a hell of a lot more than you are going to give that poor Rhino who has a family of his own too. Shame on you Corey and all the other people who claim their trophy hunts are for conservation.

A letter from my foster dog Jameson… if you live in Vegas and are interested in giving him a forever home please contact email@example.com
I brought in a bin to the Cast of Planet Hollywood’s Peepshow starring Holly Madison and look how much food we collected for homeless pets in Las Vegas! Close to 200lbs!!!! Nevada Political Action for Animals and Heaven’s Cookie will be teaming up this year to create a food bank for our many homeless animals. Think if everyone donated one small bag of food, what a difference it could make in the lives of so many animals. #doyourpart
Nevada Political Action for Animals and concerned citizens gathered on Tuesday to protest the 2 teens who viciously murdered two helpless kittens. Although these kids were considered juveniles they received the maximum penalty under the law. In Nevada it is a first offense felony to abuse an animal and we need to make sure people are brought to justice on this. Thanks to the judge and DA for taking all the phone calls and faxes from the community and making them part of the consideration when going forward with maximum penalty charges. People of Las Vegas will not tolerate animal cruelty in our state and we will continue to fight against it every day!
I received an email yesterday with a link to support a new USDA regulation that would close a major loophole in the federal regulation of puppy mills…. So of course I couldn’t resist reading the comments and then commenting myself. While I am never at all shocked by the ignorance of people, especially when it comes to animal rights, I am always amused. Here are the actual conversations I had.
The following posts are not edited it anyway but they are from different comment threads. To see all the threads in their entirety see the link below.
To the people of social media who consider themselves the Lennox Army: While I support every effort that was made to save Lennox where are you when the rest of the worlds pets need you? I hope this defeat creates a fire in you, a fire that will eventually burn out every bit of hatred and cruelty towards animals everywhere.…
Over the last month or so I began to notice A LOT of buzz about this dog named Lennox. At first I was in the dark about the whole story but after some research I began to get a clearer picture of the worldwide controversy that is Lennox. For those of you in the dark I will give you the cliff notes version. In the UK, Scotland, Whales, and N. Ireland there is something called the “Dangerous Dogs Act” which is breedism at it’s worst. It not only gives them the right to confiscate “dangerous” breeds like pit bulls but also breeds that even vaguely resemble a “dangerous” breed. In the case of Lennox he was unfortunately taken and put in solitary confinement for the last 2 years while his family and others continued to fight to have him released. Lennox has apparently done NOTHING wrong but is going to be destroyed simply because of the way he looks. As I write this I am reading that the Belfast city council has ignored any offers to take him to another country. They are set to destroy him in a matter of minutes. This tears me apart but it in no way surprises me. People judge other people every single day by race, religion, & sexual orientation. So why would we be so ignorant to think that we wouldn’t judge other living beings. Deep down I know Lennox is in Animal Heaven now safe from the hatred of the human race, but he is just ONE dog. He is ONE animal in a sea of millions of animals that are euthanized every single day for no reason. What frustrates me the most is that while Lennox has been “trending” on social media around the world who is saving those who aren’t trending. People like to fight for things that are popular, which is easy to do on twitter from your phone at Starbucks. Why is it that people can only feel a connection to something when it’s publicized with a face and a name. What about the pets that die every single day wondering what they did wrong? They did nothing wrong, we did. In our usual form we don’t take responsibility for the worlds problems that we create. Thousands of years ago WE domesticated pets to be our friends, our companions. Somewhere down the line we let them down. We lost sight of right and wrong. Now we are so far beyond pet overpopulation and animal cruelty I fear we will never get back. I won’t let it jade me though, I’ll keep fighting. Will you?
R.I.P. Lennox and every other animal that died today because of the ignorance of the human race.
